DESHDROHI :: Entertainment at its very best

This is without doubt the best worst movie i have ever seen.......

We see actor Kamal Rashid Khan (Raja) with an open-mouthed expression suggesting shock, and this expression remains stuck for some time to come, as if by glue.....An altercation takes place on the road and Sonia (Gracy Singh – her hair varying lengths in every scene) arrives on a bike to bash up a circle of goondas......... He remains open-mouthed as always, but then gives a hint of a smile. Cut (rather abruptly) to a song where Sonia is in chiffon sarees and an armful of bangles, and KRK in jeans, a jacket and shades......... This is to be his uniform for all songs in the film (always broken into without warning); otherwise he is donned perplexingly in pink and lilac floral shirts, not much like a lower-income group UP immigrant.

Fast forward to a fight on the road leads to Raja killing a man who was holding Sonia at gunpoint........ Then on, the deceased man’s brother, a politician is determined to kill Raja. Fed up with the slimy politicians and the cops who work for them, .......Raja decides to pick up the gun, take the law into his hands, and wipe out the deshdrohis.

The first time I saw the lead hero I thought they were just showing some "Extra cast" as they call it running from the main lead...... But it turned out to be our "Hero" much to my amazement and "delight". Then you see that he really fits the role being kicked arround and swindled easily by everyone....

To top it off the movie has Gracy singh of the lagaan fame and Hrishitta Bhatt, also reknowned.....God knows what they had in mind when they signed for this movie but bless their souls for having to go through the torture of dancing and singing with this guy......

As for KRK..... in the movie he keeps ruing about the fact that he is still alive, kills 5-6 policemen and politicians with one bullet, penetrates the most toughest security perimeters with gravity defying jumps and stunts and keeps crying about his dead grandpa and his dreams.......It should be noted that Gracy singh strangely ends up looking more masculine than our Hero........ In fact I suspect that both these characters are confused about their sexuality and therein find compatibility......... Cant wait to see what their next generation turns out to be.

The acting in the movie's truly unbelievable.....Krk makes harman baweja look like 'Al Pacino'.....Gracy singh is hopless....as are the other members of the cast.....the make-up,styling,camera work and everything else about this movie sucks to its very core.......

This movie is meant to be watched with friends at a time when people have nothing better to do but ridicule, debase and insult someone from the bottom of the heart and laugh at it like a devil........... Please Please watch this 8th wonder of the world in its pure ugliness........

The Commentator's Curse

A cricket match is not complete without a television commentator driving you up the wall with his truisms and bizarre analysis..... I am no great fan but watching a match recently on T.V reminded me why i was not a fan in the first place......Occasionally the commentary is so bad that it is better to watch these matches without any sound......and the irritating thing is the commentary does not make any sense and is repetitve and unbearable......its really easy to see why....

Given below is a list of the some annoying phrases put forward by the commentators .....

1."he always give 110%"

Sorry but that is impossible ..... whatever you do,you cant give more than 100%.....

2."the other team just didnt turn up"

Oh this ones from botham....rubbish.........so who were the first team doing on the ground in the first place.....a match is always played between two teams.....

3."this would be a good time to take a wicket"

Er....when is it ever a bad time to take a wicket?.....what the hell are the bowlers doing in the team then.....?

4. "he's hit that into orbit"

A recent one....depending on the no: of times they use this.......space must now be filled with orbitting cricket balls.....however high the ball is hit,it still wouldn be taller than the smallest skyscraper...

5." A bad day at the office"

What office?.....i thought this was a cricket match they were playing......

6."he's just run out of steam"

forgive me for not being aware cricketers run on steam in the first place.....

7."the gap between the pad and the bat was so wide you couldve driven a car through"

If thats the case then the batsman would have a 2 metre long arm........and i am pretty sure Mr.Fanatstic exists only in comic books.....

8."cricket is basically baseball on valium"

I am not even going to start on this one......cricket must also be basically football.rugby, tennis, badminton and swimming with valium....

9."the ball went so high it couldve got an airhostess down with it"

duh....the only way that might happen is if airhostesses sprout wings, develop the ability to fly and keep circling the cricket stadiums all day......

10."if the throw had been target he would have been out"

If paris hilton hadnt made those videos, she would be a virgin

11."lookin to take the pace off the ball"

I have a cricket ball in my room....it doesnt have any pace on it at all.....

12."if they had been offered 300 at the beginning of the match they would have taken it"

so who is it that actually makes these offers?

13."the team that doesnt win win will find itself on the losing side"

how insightful and innovative......

14. “Cricket is being played more in the mind than on the field"

fine...then why do we still have stadiums.....or the crowd...or the cricket gear and other stuff....

15 "catches win matches"

i am pretty sure it does.....bowling and batting doesnt win matches at all........ its only the catches....

16."thats gone miles in the air"

50 feet....alrite....100 feet....very rarely....but miles??

17."he certainly knows how to bat"

Of course he should.....if not then whats he doing in the team in the first place........

18."the batsman's hit that down the fielders throat"

its a cricket ball for gods sake....wont the fielder choke and die?

19."the atmosphere's electric here"

i agree the indian crowd are really passionate.....but do the commentators have to say that line every time???

20. "never write off the aussies"

I know australia have been the best team for many a year.....but when they are down 9 wickets and needing about 30 runs from 4 balls to win....i think it would be safe to count your chickens.....

Glory untouched by fame

Time is very much a part of the fundamental structure of the universe,a sort of a dimension in which events occur in a forward sequence......it has its effect on everything related with the universe, let alone earth...and has takes its toll on everything on the face of our planet, every person....right?well..not quite....seems to have forgotten one man....the most famous indian since Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi....

To see things in a clearer perspective lets go back to 1989...... when sachin made his international debut for india against one of the finest bowling attacks on the planet......Manchester united hadnt won a trophy for 23 years,Michael schumacher was yet to touch an F-1 car,Pete sampras hadnt even won a grand slam yet,Diego maradona was still the captain of a world cup winning argentine national team,Michael jordan had just started as an NBA proffesional,Lance armstrong hadnt even been to tour de france.........and this is just the old generation of sports greatest.....Mordern greats Messi,Cristiano Ronaldo,Rooney were in thier nappies....so was Lewis Hamilton.....Usain bolt had just started walking,Phelps didnt ven know the meaning of the word swimming.....and Roger Federer hadnt even decided between football and tennis.....oh and believe it or not the Soviet union still existed, the Berlin wall was impact,Manmohan singh was yet to introduce the ecnomic reforms....

With his extraordinary performances over the past two decades, not to mention his exemplary conduct off the field, Sachin Tendulkar has proved that it is possible to be a sporting icon without turning into a monster...especially considering the recent events.... In the light of the various indiscretions committed in recent weeks..... by Tiger Woods, John Terry and Ashley Cole, it would be easy to conclude that while power corrupts...... sporting success corrupts absolutely....There are counter Examples of course....Sachin,Federer,Ryan Giggs and a select few.....

And yet, despite spending more than 20 years at the top of his sport...Tendulkar has never become tangled up with an actress or model(like terry, cole, woods) or been accused of giving out pitch and weather information to an illegal bookmaker(like Hansie Cronje and Jadeja).......And thts just it...Everything about Sachin's public persona backs up his squeaky clean image...modest,gracious,diplomatic,non-controversial,sincere.....what more could you possibly want?

And He seems to be doing his Benjamin button impressions now....the last year has been among his most productive and best.....guess the only jewel left in his crown is the world cup...and i doubt whether he will retire before the next one starts....and the stage is set....the tourney is in india....in front of his adoring supporters....and the thing is above anyhting else he deserves it and everybody knows that.....The whole Indian team owes him this.....atleast till then he's going to carry on his journey ....one of joy and purity....

Atheism:A Thinking person's answer to religious fundamentalism

What’s in a name? “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
Shakespeare.

Atheist. Agnostic. Non-believer. All names that characterize and define someone who does not for whatever reason accept the traditional belief system in gods, goddesses, supernatural personages, good spirits, bad spirits, devils, angels, afterlife, before life and other stuff like that..........

This is for the all the people out there who find yourselves doubting your faith. And of course, you may receive a lot of advice from others about how doubt will strengthen your faith and may even bring you closer to your god. I'm not here to argue with that or to tell you that such a perspective is necessarily wrong. What I want is to point out that there is another possibility you should at least consider or look at. What if the doubts that you are experiencing is a healthy sign that your rational mind is trying to break free from a tradition of superstition?

Allright.......Maybe tradition can be a reassuring source of comfort when we long for familiarity, but this does not necessarily make it worth retaining. For instance,a person raised in home filled with racist attitudes.,racism is likely to feel familiar, even comfortable, but that does not mean that the individual cannot and should not leave it behind with maturity, even if his or her family continues to cling to it.

As we mature, we often begin to doubt many things we never used to question. There was a time when i believed in Santa Claus , but I set these beliefs aside long ago. why ? After all,I could not prove that there is no Santa. It was just because my mind realized that there was no evidence to suggest that they were real.

Belief in a god is similar in the lack of evidence, but different in that it is far more likely to have negative consequences. I have seen people condemn others for not adhering to the same religious beliefs. I have seen them behave in a manner inconsistent with the religious values they profess. And above all I've just grown tired of the endless religious violence, the pedophile priests, the holier-than-thou routine, or the utter hypocrisy of it all. In other words, religion for me is unlike Santa because it divides people and contributes to great suffering........

So perhaps it is time to explore the possibility of a life where meaning is derived from what is - rather than from stories and fantasies about what one wants it to be. It may be scary to imagine your life without religion. After all, it may be all you've ever known. The doubt you are experiencing might even feel like a part of your very self is at risk. But do not be so quick to dismiss your doubt. Your rational mind is just trying to communicate with you.............

I found freedom in atheism once I came to the intellectual conclusion that religion nowadays is a lie perpetuated by well-meaning and not-so-well-meaning--mostly men--with an agenda for job security, self-promotion, power and money......

I still believe all the basic stuff religions teach are good enough for everyone to obey. It keeps us civilized. I also believe when we live in fear of our gods, when we are scolded and shamed for natural thoughts and instincts by pompous preachers, and when we hold ourselves in self-righteous indignation about how others look, believe, and think, that it simply says volumes about what we think of ourselves and our own guilt heaped upon our heads by others.........

One might say a good dose of atheism is like a cure for the some ideas of faith-based religion. Take a dose, you may find it refreshing....

RETURN OF THE KING

The man named Jimmy Jump is barmy......not because of the fact that he is a streaker,an interloper at sports events both at Spain and abroad.....not because of his weird garb of a mix of a Swiss flag and a Barcelona football team flag and a strange cap........but because he seemed to be the only person on earth genuinely determined to ruin one of sports greatest moments......

The surprise finalist Robin Soderling and the the weather did try its best though.....and the lunatic may have left him a bit distracted...but Federer didn't show it.....just tried to shy away from the intruder when anyone else in the position may have just clocked him......

But the simple fact was that nothing was going to stop Federer that day from going back to where he belonged....to being the best tennis player in history and one of the best athletes of all times....

Allright....Everyone marvels at Tiger Woods's technique and perfection, the speed and athleticism of Usain Bolt....and the honours they both have won.....but it is simply unbeleivable and mindblowing the way Federer seems to combine the supreme qualities of both these players.......twice he had to fight back from near defeats during the earlier rounds......and in a mordern era where tennis is defined more by power he proves that grace and subtelty can prove telling too.......

Nobody has ever managed to ever dominate and play any sport with such so much aesthetic beauty and grace as Federer has done with tennis......and time an time again he produces moments of magic on court often inventing new shots along the way nobody has ever seen or heard of......such that now these moments have been called the 'Federer moments' .......viewers and sports journalists often hav trouble finding words to descibe the beauty and style of his game......not to mention his attitude and the aura he carries around with him.....

What made the French open even more special was the that everyone loves a comeback.........a bout of mononucleosis and food poisoning affected his game a little and had reduced his dominance....along withe emergence of the phenomenal talents that were Nadal and Murray.....people were soon complaining about him losing his grip on things.....it could hardly be more contrasting.........

After the match,Federer was down on his knees and the emotions were let out..he was still crying as the Swiss anthem was played during the ceremony and one was reminded of the Australian open earlier this year when the tears had come out for an altogether different reason....

But the ultimate fact is that Roger seems to be back.......revived and rejuvenated....

His rival's nightmares may have already started but the spectator's treat has just begun.....
