DESHDROHI :: Entertainment at its very best

This is without doubt the best worst movie i have ever seen.......

We see actor Kamal Rashid Khan (Raja) with an open-mouthed expression suggesting shock, and this expression remains stuck for some time to come, as if by glue.....An altercation takes place on the road and Sonia (Gracy Singh – her hair varying lengths in every scene) arrives on a bike to bash up a circle of goondas......... He remains open-mouthed as always, but then gives a hint of a smile. Cut (rather abruptly) to a song where Sonia is in chiffon sarees and an armful of bangles, and KRK in jeans, a jacket and shades......... This is to be his uniform for all songs in the film (always broken into without warning); otherwise he is donned perplexingly in pink and lilac floral shirts, not much like a lower-income group UP immigrant.

Fast forward to a fight on the road leads to Raja killing a man who was holding Sonia at gunpoint........ Then on, the deceased man’s brother, a politician is determined to kill Raja. Fed up with the slimy politicians and the cops who work for them, .......Raja decides to pick up the gun, take the law into his hands, and wipe out the deshdrohis.

The first time I saw the lead hero I thought they were just showing some "Extra cast" as they call it running from the main lead...... But it turned out to be our "Hero" much to my amazement and "delight". Then you see that he really fits the role being kicked arround and swindled easily by everyone....

To top it off the movie has Gracy singh of the lagaan fame and Hrishitta Bhatt, also reknowned.....God knows what they had in mind when they signed for this movie but bless their souls for having to go through the torture of dancing and singing with this guy......

As for KRK..... in the movie he keeps ruing about the fact that he is still alive, kills 5-6 policemen and politicians with one bullet, penetrates the most toughest security perimeters with gravity defying jumps and stunts and keeps crying about his dead grandpa and his dreams.......It should be noted that Gracy singh strangely ends up looking more masculine than our Hero........ In fact I suspect that both these characters are confused about their sexuality and therein find compatibility......... Cant wait to see what their next generation turns out to be.

The acting in the movie's truly unbelievable.....Krk makes harman baweja look like 'Al Pacino'.....Gracy singh is hopless....as are the other members of the cast.....the make-up,styling,camera work and everything else about this movie sucks to its very core.......

This movie is meant to be watched with friends at a time when people have nothing better to do but ridicule, debase and insult someone from the bottom of the heart and laugh at it like a devil........... Please Please watch this 8th wonder of the world in its pure ugliness........

The Commentator's Curse

A cricket match is not complete without a television commentator driving you up the wall with his truisms and bizarre analysis..... I am no great fan but watching a match recently on T.V reminded me why i was not a fan in the first place......Occasionally the commentary is so bad that it is better to watch these matches without any sound......and the irritating thing is the commentary does not make any sense and is repetitve and unbearable......its really easy to see why....

Given below is a list of the some annoying phrases put forward by the commentators .....

1."he always give 110%"

Sorry but that is impossible ..... whatever you do,you cant give more than 100%.....

2."the other team just didnt turn up"

Oh this ones from botham....rubbish.........so who were the first team doing on the ground in the first place.....a match is always played between two teams.....

3."this would be a good time to take a wicket"

Er....when is it ever a bad time to take a wicket?.....what the hell are the bowlers doing in the team then.....?

4. "he's hit that into orbit"

A recent one....depending on the no: of times they use this.......space must now be filled with orbitting cricket balls.....however high the ball is hit,it still wouldn be taller than the smallest skyscraper...

5." A bad day at the office"

What office?.....i thought this was a cricket match they were playing......

6."he's just run out of steam"

forgive me for not being aware cricketers run on steam in the first place.....

7."the gap between the pad and the bat was so wide you couldve driven a car through"

If thats the case then the batsman would have a 2 metre long arm........and i am pretty sure Mr.Fanatstic exists only in comic books.....

8."cricket is basically baseball on valium"

I am not even going to start on this one......cricket must also be basically football.rugby, tennis, badminton and swimming with valium....

9."the ball went so high it couldve got an airhostess down with it"

duh....the only way that might happen is if airhostesses sprout wings, develop the ability to fly and keep circling the cricket stadiums all day......

10."if the throw had been target he would have been out"

If paris hilton hadnt made those videos, she would be a virgin

11."lookin to take the pace off the ball"

I have a cricket ball in my room....it doesnt have any pace on it at all.....

12."if they had been offered 300 at the beginning of the match they would have taken it"

so who is it that actually makes these offers?

13."the team that doesnt win win will find itself on the losing side"

how insightful and innovative......

14. “Cricket is being played more in the mind than on the field"

fine...then why do we still have stadiums.....or the crowd...or the cricket gear and other stuff....

15 "catches win matches"

i am pretty sure it does.....bowling and batting doesnt win matches at all........ its only the catches....

16."thats gone miles in the air"

50 feet....alrite....100 feet....very rarely....but miles??

17."he certainly knows how to bat"

Of course he should.....if not then whats he doing in the team in the first place........

18."the batsman's hit that down the fielders throat"

its a cricket ball for gods sake....wont the fielder choke and die?

19."the atmosphere's electric here"

i agree the indian crowd are really passionate.....but do the commentators have to say that line every time???

20. "never write off the aussies"

I know australia have been the best team for many a year.....but when they are down 9 wickets and needing about 30 runs from 4 balls to win....i think it would be safe to count your chickens.....

Glory untouched by fame

Time is very much a part of the fundamental structure of the universe,a sort of a dimension in which events occur in a forward sequence......it has its effect on everything related with the universe, let alone earth...and has takes its toll on everything on the face of our planet, every person....right?well..not quite....seems to have forgotten one man....the most famous indian since Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi....

To see things in a clearer perspective lets go back to 1989...... when sachin made his international debut for india against one of the finest bowling attacks on the planet......Manchester united hadnt won a trophy for 23 years,Michael schumacher was yet to touch an F-1 car,Pete sampras hadnt even won a grand slam yet,Diego maradona was still the captain of a world cup winning argentine national team,Michael jordan had just started as an NBA proffesional,Lance armstrong hadnt even been to tour de france.........and this is just the old generation of sports greatest.....Mordern greats Messi,Cristiano Ronaldo,Rooney were in thier nappies....so was Lewis Hamilton.....Usain bolt had just started walking,Phelps didnt ven know the meaning of the word swimming.....and Roger Federer hadnt even decided between football and tennis.....oh and believe it or not the Soviet union still existed, the Berlin wall was impact,Manmohan singh was yet to introduce the ecnomic reforms....

With his extraordinary performances over the past two decades, not to mention his exemplary conduct off the field, Sachin Tendulkar has proved that it is possible to be a sporting icon without turning into a monster...especially considering the recent events.... In the light of the various indiscretions committed in recent weeks..... by Tiger Woods, John Terry and Ashley Cole, it would be easy to conclude that while power corrupts...... sporting success corrupts absolutely....There are counter Examples of course....Sachin,Federer,Ryan Giggs and a select few.....

And yet, despite spending more than 20 years at the top of his sport...Tendulkar has never become tangled up with an actress or model(like terry, cole, woods) or been accused of giving out pitch and weather information to an illegal bookmaker(like Hansie Cronje and Jadeja).......And thts just it...Everything about Sachin's public persona backs up his squeaky clean image...modest,gracious,diplomatic,non-controversial,sincere.....what more could you possibly want?

And He seems to be doing his Benjamin button impressions now....the last year has been among his most productive and best.....guess the only jewel left in his crown is the world cup...and i doubt whether he will retire before the next one starts....and the stage is set....the tourney is in india....in front of his adoring supporters....and the thing is above anyhting else he deserves it and everybody knows that.....The whole Indian team owes him this.....atleast till then he's going to carry on his journey ....one of joy and purity....
